Engineering Diversity

The theme of this Women in Engineering Forum is 'Addressing Unconscious Bias', a topic that plays an important role in dealing with the gender imbalance in STEM subjects. We are delighted to be holding a discusion of this important topic on National Women in Engineering Day.

Unconscious bias has been defined  "[..] when we make judgments or decisions on the basis of our prior experience, our own personal deep-seated thought patterns, assumptions or interpretations, and we are not aware that we are doing it." (Royal Society, 2016).   This can impact the way in which we behave in interviews, meetings and other interactions, and unconsciously steer us into making unfair decisions.

Our guest speaker will be Donna Carty, an expert in helping organisations address unconscious bias issues. Donna works for Challenge Consultancy, a training and consultancy firm specialising in issues of equality and diversity.

This event is open to all.  To help us order enough sandwiches, please book your free place: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/women-in-engineering-forum-addressing-unconscious-bias-tickets-26003334674
